What’s the difference between inlays and onlays?

Both inlays and onlays are designed to repair your teeth when they have been severely fractured or worn-down. However, there is a slight difference between inlays and onlays:

• Inlays fill in larger cavities, and are fitted within a cusp of a back tooth
• Onlays are made to cover the chewing surface and extend over the cusp

How are inlays and onlays fitted?

We may administer a local anaesthetic (or IV sedation if you suffer from dental anxiety) to minimise any discomfort. Then, we will have your inlays/onlays produced with our Cerec® technology from the digital photographs of the affected teeth. This allows us to create precise orthodontics for your individual needs. Then, we will prepare the affected teeth before fitting your custom-made inlays/onlays and restore the functionality of your smile and bite.
