Implant Treatment Schedule
Keeping You Smiling From Start To Finish At Kent Smile Studio!
Patients interested in dental implants may like to know what the entire treatment schedule entails from start to finish. Here at our Maidstone & Chatham clinics we are proud of our thorough and detailed approach to dental implantation and we strive to ensure patients are happy and informed at every stage of the treatment.
During your initial consultation we will perform a full oral examination. We may also take X-rays and potentially a CT scan in order to get a more detailed look at the areas needing treatment. During this stage we will explain the full treatment sequence to you, answer any questions you may have and discuss the costs of the treatment sequence with you. The consultation is also used to ascertain whether or not dental implants are a suitable option for your individual needs.
During this stage we will prepare detailed, precise models of your mouth and the sites requiring implants. We construct a template for the next stage of the treatment sequence so that the implants can be positioned accurately.
Some patients may have a loss of jawbone in the site of missing teeth. This means there may be insufficient jawbone for us to place dental implants. If this is the case we may perform a bone graft or similar procedure in order to provide a stable and secure site in which to place the implants. If implants are required on the upper jaw, we may also need to perform a sinus lift in cases where the sinuses are directly where the implants need to be placed, or where they are close enough for the procedure to be unsafe.
This stage is where the implants will be placed under the gums. The implants are fixed in place of the tooth root, and enable replacement teeth to be placed securely. The full implant and crown completely replace the full function of a normal tooth. The procedure is pain free as it is performed using a local anaesthetic which completely numbs the area. The treatment can also be performed with oral, IV or inhalation sedation in order to provide a much more comfortable experience for the patient.
After around 3-6 months the top of the implants are exposed. This amount of time is needed for healing after the procedure to enable the jawbone to fuse with the titanium implants - providing a strong and secure base for replacement teeth. During the implant exposure local anaesthesia is used so you won't feel any pain. After this stage the gum is left to heal for 2 weeks.
During your implant exposure we will also take accurate impressions of the implant area in order to construct a natural looking and feeling tooth. The type of replacement tooth or teeth you will need depends on your individual requirements. In some cases just one crown is needed, in others a full set of dentures is required.
During your final stage of treatment we will attach the replacement teeth to your implants. This is a very quick and simple process and after a few days you should stop noticing you even have dental implants at all.
